Three campaigns, one collection

Annual dossiers for the Spanish-Egyptian Archaeological Mission at Dra Abu el-Naga. Every season brings a different find to the cover, yet all three have to read as parts of one series.

The brief

The campaign dossier is what the mission shows the outside world: sponsors, institutions and the press. It is published once a year and competes with last year's edition.

The source material changes completely each season. One year the find is a polychrome coffin; the next, a set of seals and ushabtis photographed on black. The one constant is that the sponsor logos have to be there, and be there properly.

How it was solved

A system instead of three loose covers. Same format, same grid, same sponsor band at the foot, same way of writing the campaign number and its dates.

Inside that structure the photograph decides. When the find can carry a page alone, it takes the whole cover and the title sits over it; when the season is better told with several pieces, they form a grid and the title turns to the spine to make room.

The result is three dossiers that read as one collection without sharing a single image.
